Michael's story

Michael was born a refugee camp, the tenth child of a very sick and exhausted mother, and was brought to Potter’s Village after her death, way back in 2007. He stayed at Potter’s Village as a resident child and later was resettled to a foster home. Michael has been living in this home since 2009, but Potter’s Village had not been able to find the whereabouts of his family after they left the refugee camp in Kisoro.

Fortunately, in April 2023, his father, brother and sister came and reported to Potter’s village looking for Michael. It was an excitement to us since we had been looking for this family and had failed to find them.  In the discussion that we had with his biological family, we agreed that Michael must first go to Congo for a visit, and thereafter, we would  arrange with them when he could join them.

So Michael went to Congo to visit his family and spent 2 weeks moving around his relatives. When he came back to Kisoro after the visit we had a meeting with him and his foster family where we agreed that we would arrange his resettlement and re-unification with his own family.

Michael has finished his course in motorbike mechanics and if given tools we hope he will be able to sustain himself for the future.  “I will be happy to join and live with my family in Congo after this month if the war is not much, as it sometimes happens causing citizens to run away from their homes,” Michael said.

In conclusion therefore, we hope to resettle Michael to his biological family in June 2023.
