Special Care Nursery

New store roomThe SCN ‘opened for business’ in October 2012 when the first premature baby was admitted. Over the next few years numbers grew slowly but over the last year or so the rate of growth has increased rapidly. It had got to the point where every incubator, cot (polystyrene box!) and baby bath were in use, sometimes doubled up. A bean bag was put into use and still the babies were coming in, so it was on to desk drawers… some babies were looked after in the main ward as there was no more room in the Nursery.

So plans were  drawn up to move things around in the Medical Centre to create a larger area for the SCN. The Paediatric ward was temporarily re-located to the overflow ward, whilst the SCN babies went into the Paediatric Ward. What was the SCN has now become the Storeroom, whilst the old Storeroom and Private Room have been re-configured to create an enlarged Nursery.
