Thank you to Dr Mike and Mrs Sue Hughes

Paul writes to the believers at Philippi that he is confident that "the one who began a good work among them would bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ.”  That gives us confidence that the Lord who sowed the vision of Potter’s Village in the heart of Jenny Green and brought it to birth has raised up the Staff to oversee its growth and development. The whole venture has been a journey of faith and an experience of God’s faithfulness. We saw that in the arrival of Mike and Sue who joined Potter’s Village Ministries when Jenny Green was still Director. She returned to the UK in 2013 with the intention of returning but for health and family reasons that was not to be. Mike was already the Doctor at Potters and Sue was happy to take on the role of Director and both agreed to a commitment of five years. They have been a great team and built and led a great team.

In their time they and the Staff team have consolidated and expanded the work and ministry of Potter’s Village. They have developed the Medical Centre and the neonatal unit which Rosy Brown started. They started a nutrition unit and a antenatal unit. Potter’s Village have new buildings to house their expanding ministry. A top floor has been added to the Hostel which serves the Nutritional Unit on the ground floor and the first floor provides accommodation for visitors and a flat for a Doctor. In their time a closer relationship has grown between the Diocese and Potters Village and the Ugandan Board is operating well under the leadership of Dr Michael Baganizi. The Trustees have had their faith challenged many times with raising the money for new buildings and an increasing staff but time and again God has provided. Mike has been followed by a Ugandan Doctor Daniel Ssenjala and Sue by a Ugandan Administrator Emmanuel Mujuni. We are delighted that Dr Nicci Maxwell will be returning to Potter’s Village in the autumn under the auspices of CMS. This is a time of change and challenge but as we recall God’s faithfulness in the past we can trust him for all that lies ahead.

The Trustees want to praise God for his faithfulness and thank all the supporters of Potter’s Village for their generosity and prayer. We are immensely grateful for the wonderful service and inspiring leadership that Mike and Sue have given over the last five years and wish them well in their retirement and their new home in Bedford.

David Hughes.                                                                              16.07.2018
